background

From an early age I have had an interest in all things creative which lead me to choose the arts and science subjects during my early years. After getting a degree in Fine Art (painting and drawing) I thought what next? I completed a P.G.C.E in Art and Design Secondary Education and worked as a supply teacher for three years before I decided to train as a web designer.

I trained in hand coding HTML and learnt all the main graphics packages (Photoshop, Illustrator and Flash) before getting my first job in web design in 2001. Since then things have moved on a lot in the world of web design and I have continued to keep my skills up to date.

I have worked as both a sole trader and at design agencies. Microsoft provided the grounding to my career - it was where I was taught how to create email newsletters along with the art of creating a great banner ad. My last role was New Media Manager at The H2 Company. My role included designing websites, programming, mentoring studio staff, briefing freelancers and checking the quality of the work prior to completion.

When I’m creating a website (the graphical interface of the website i.e. what you see on screen) all my experience comes into play. I draw on my skills as an artist, a programmer and a good communicator. The websites I produce look good and equally important are well coded. Its important to have both these factors – a professionally designed website that is programmed to be standards compliant. This goes a long way for search engine optimisation (website marketing).

All of the above has lead me here, living in Leeds as a web designer and loving it.
